5/15/1999 Okay, first time I've had a chance to sit down and work on this project for a while. My goal is to have approximately 20 pictures of so-called "masters" that have added cartoon bubbles to them. Of course, these cartoon bubbles are going to be rather off-the-wall (keeping with my warped sense of humor). ... So far, I have 10 pictures done. Sometimes the going is rather quick, but others can take a bit to find the "perfect" quote or saying. I just finished my 1st pass on Michelangelo's "The Creation of Adam." When I brought it up, I immediately thought 1-800-COLLECT. So, there. However, Canaletto's "The Basin of San Marco on Ascension Day" took a bit more work. I think the funnier ones are the ones that jump out at you. ... "Issac" (gotta find the name of the original painter) was quite funny. I've seen this situation before. There is a picture at the Getty by Reubens that I am reminded of. In fact, "Issac" might even be by Reubens. I'll have to check it out. ... Okay, picked up an interesting Pollock piece. Maybe I can do something with it? ... I got a little red rooster - ha. I'm thinking of taking a more serious approach to my next couple of pictures. Maybe I can even work in some chain of events or recurring themes. That would be ideal. There's a red rooster on the prowl. ... For the past couple of weeks, I've been toying with the perfect quote for Goya's "May 3, 1808." Think I finally found it. Kept tossing and turning on it. Guess I stole one too many Twinkies from my roommate. Gonna catch up with me. ... Sometimes picking fonts, colors, sizing is harder than picking the actual saying. Guess there is a lot to be said for "framing" a picture. The proper frame is important to the rest of the piece. Wrong color scheme can kill the whole thing. ... Sizing these so it looks decent on a web browser is going to be hard work. Wonder what resolution I'll use. ... First one without someone saying something. Trend? ... I like this stuff with inanimate objects. Neato. ... Okay, I have my twenty desired pictures now. If I feel the need for more, I think I have some potential candidates. So, I'm done for the day. Wow, have I really worked this long? Yikes. Time flies. Now, I need to think about how I'm going to present them. Web-based makes the most sense, but right now all of the images are different sizes. That could be a problem. Powerpoint slide system? Who knows? The shadow knows. ... 6/01/1999 Okay, formatting pictures. I think I decided that 800x600 is a decent resolution. Most of the images were originally envisioned at 1024x768. Therefore, when I shrunk them down they kinda suck. Little blurry. Worst one is Hopper's Night Hawks. Maybe I will post the original (full-size) version along with it. I'll have to see how much disk space this will all take up. Might be a lot. Too bad I left my CD-R back at home. Damn, I could have used it here. Oh, well. ... I know you rider, gonna miss me when I'm gone... ... Guess I'm going to have to do some HTML coding to present this on my web page. Hmph - ... Fixed Warhol and Pissaro. Maybe I will keep the smaller pictures at their original resolution. The resizing algorithm introduces too much noise. ... Finished an initial version of the page. Nothing fancy. Hey, you want fancy? Pay me! ... All right, I caved in and added the large version of Hopper's painting. Left the smaller (distorted) one there as well. ... Gotta try and track down those "unknown" paintings. Ease my mind a bit. ... Praying that my web server won't choke on this. If it does, well, I'm dead. Got to also pray that the connection in the room isn't bad. Oy, vey! ... 6/02/1999 Well, I found out that my web server choked on long file names with spaces. Not good. Spent the last thirty minutes working on getting it so I can view the files. Clicking on everything now to make sure it all comes up correctly. ... Okay, all looks fine here. Rearranging the order a bit. Try to have it make some sense. ... I'm done. I'll show it to a few people before I present this afternoon. But, it's all up and working. ... All in all, this was a rather interesting experience. Fun. Got a chance to do a little creative thinking on my part. We'll see how well received it all is this afternoon ...
